(I posted this yesterday, actually.. seems like it  was  shredded
by  my  delinquent  news  server. So here goes again... if it did
show up somewhere yesterday, ignore this)

#379

Song:   Mere sang piya ghabraaye mora jiyaa re
                Haaye koi dekh legaa

Film:   Ek Gaon Ki Kahaani (1957)
        Singer: Talat Mahmood, Lata Mangeshkar
        Music:  Salil Chowdhury
        Lyrics: Shailendra
        *ing:   ?

The main reason I picked this one today, inspite of the fact that
I  like the glorious Talat solo from this movie ("Raat ne kya kya
khwaab dikhaaye..")  more is  that  it  is  as  representative  a
Salilda  tune  as  they  get.  It  IS  a fairly charming tune, no
mistakes about that... the playful flippancy in Lata's voice, and
the whole song in general, is delectable.

A tad confusing lyrics, though- "mere sang  piya  ghabraaye  more
jiya.."  ??   I'm  probably  dissecting  it  wrongly,  but is she
telling her "piya" that she's scared of being with herself (which
does  not  make sense except to a schizophrenic) ? Or is she just
scared that someone will see  her  "piya"  with  her  (which,  in
retrospect, does make a little bit more sense) ?

Ok, go ahead someone.. make me look stupid :-)
