Today, I conclude a song series on S D Burman with a great
musical piece

#96
Song: Aa Palakon Me Aa, Sapane Sajaa, Aa~
                Behosh Raaton Ki, Nindi`ya Churaa~~~, Aa~~ ...

        Film: Mad Bhare Nain (1955)
        Music: Sachin Dev Barman
        Lyrics: Shailendra
        Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
        *ing: ?

This songs opens with lovely piece of guitar and violin. Sachin-
da has used a good mix of indian and western elements in the
formation of orchestra, rhythm and tune. The most beautiful part
is Lata's short aalaaps to start and to end stanzas, which start
amidst soft symphonies, created using violins and guitar, much
like a ''madhukar'' coming out with nice humming sound with
opening of lily petals in pond, on a moonlit night and towards
the end of it, fades into another symphony forming interludes,
again the way the same ''madhukar'' rests in same petals at dawn
unto another day end! With Lata singing some alaaps, particularly
'O~~ O~~ O ...' before start of stanza with momentary pause in
singing all the three 'O~~' , gives a right fusion touch, as
pause breaks the intonation (a perfect touch for western
classical effect) for very short period, without losing pitch.
Great musical treat from Sachin Deb Burman. The net effect is so
profound, it overshadows even signing of Lata Mangeshkar, and her
sweet voice becomes secondary! That does not mean, she puts any
lesser efforts, it's just victory of great music over might of
lovely voice.Such an awesome use of guitar was unprecedented in
film music, and till date, I suppose no one has even reached any
closer to heights of these chords.

The lyrics of Shailendra, plays it's part too. Just look at the
mukhada itself. Sachinda, Shailendra and Lata together gives
listener an experience of what a sweet, never to end dream could
be!

This one, according to me, is easily the best Lata song for
Sachin Deb. And am sure, many will place it high up on their list
of best Lata-SDB efforts.
