By the way pardon my ignorance, but what is |> "RMIM by Sami?" Where is it published from? Thanks for asking that question. I know a lot of other people are wondering about this too - what/who/where exactly is this "RMIM by Sami" that everyone always seems to be referring to? Let me be the first to resolve the issue, once and for all. "RMIM by Sami" is a tome - an obese book - with lots of pages. Each page has even more sub-pages (think of them as sub-sections, if you will). The first page is devoted to Sami himself (alas! who can be prevented from indulging in self-description given the opportunity) but you can skip it if you do not mind offending him. Then the fun begins. The next page is full of the things Sami has done for this wonderful world of music on the net, in nice self-congratulatory prose. His taste however shines through - the first to greet you are Naushad's and Rafi's pictures, and a nice salaam-aleikum. You are then beckoned forth by the latest in the music world, plus important notices, just in case you haven't been keeping track of what is happening around you. This is when the name dropping begins. He calls upon Satish and Prince (moi) to lend credibility to his book, by scattering our cognomens at the very drop of a hat. A few more pictures and public announcements of his weird tastes carry you to his articles about music on the net. You begin to realize, right around now, why Sami hasn't yet graduated. His photo album greets you next, with "plenty of pics here" on the cover. You start feeling a little suspicious - "I really hope this is no please-give-voluntary-donation outfit." But you soon forget all your fears when you encounter the chhaya-geets and the magic moments and other assorted series compilations, including the famous chitrahaar and RJGK quizzes. Next come the articles about people. Singers, music directors, lyricists, tutorials, miscellaneous, the funnies, cassette and CD lists, everything you had always wanted but did not know existed. A bibliography of other such books about music on the net, and you can rest awhile before delving in further. The remainder of the book is for you to discover. It is available at all major Web sites with the ISBN number (er... the WWW address) http://www.lehigh.edu/sm0e/public/www-data/sm0e.html but it's selling out fast! I hope this has piqued your curiosity enough and you too will wish to join the thousands of readers who have attained musical salvation through this sangeet veda. If you have any problems accessing the book, send a mail to Sami at sm0e@lehigh.edu and ask for an appointment. Give my reference - it might help. My only excuse is that it was early in the morning and I was tired and sleepy. However, here's the part I missed from the veda: If one digs deep enough, one comes across a conundrum. Displayed are the pictures of two men. (Makes one wonder...) Each is the President of his tribe, both the families much bloodied by mutual warfare. What one has to guess is which one is which. The penalty for an incorrect guess is immdiate ex-communication by each clan, which is good business for the Preeti Panda Club for Mukeshophiles. The identities of the two leaders? Our very own Rajan P. and Abhay A. The clubs? Kishore Kumar Klan (KKK) and the RAFIans, respectively. The membership? Currently runs in thousands, the only eligibility requirement being that at times of war, one must bash the other campers, including women and children :-) Happy browsing, -Prince p.s. There are tons of other pictures in the photo album. Very much worth a visit.
