For those of you who have joined us recently, RJGK is a quiz in which the clues are lines, both complete and incomplete, from some part of the song, and all you have to do is guess the song. eg. For the clue "Chumme ke badle mein kya doge bolo to" the correct answer would be the song "Jumma Chumma de de" (Hum). What's important and to be kept in mind is : ** Do NOT post your answers on the net. Email them to Sandeep at ** ** sjoshi@eng.clemson.edu by Moday, November 14th. ** The originator of the idea of such a quiz on the net was Samiuddin Mohammed and it was he who posted the first few. Abhay Avachat, who compiled RJGK-3 had the great idea that each RJGK be set to a certain theme. Hence, RJGK-3 was a Mohammed Rafi special, while RJGK-4, compiled by Vivek Vohra, was a Kishore Kumar special. The theme of RJGK-5 was Duets, compiled by Samiuddin Mohammed, RJGK-6, a Lata Mangeshkar special, was compiled by JG, while RJGK-7, a Mukesh special, was conducted by Preetham Gopalaswamy and Rajan Parrikar. RJGK-8, was compiled by Samiuddin Mohammed, and was dedicated to R.D.Burman, RJGK-9 was a Gulzar special brought to us by Ashish Bokil and Sandeep Joshi. RJGK-10 was an Asha special conducted by Renu Thamma, RJGK-11 was on S.D.Burman conducted by Ketan Dholakia, and RJGK-12 was dedicated to Yesudas and compiled by Nuts. RJGK-13 was on 'Bhoole Bisre Geet' and conducted by Srinath Varadarajan Ekkad and RGJK-14 was a Naushad special brought to us by Ajay Nerurkar. [ Taken from the RMIM-FAQ. Thanks Satish, Prince and all other contributors ] ................................................................................ Laxmikant - Pyarelal -------------------- Always the underdogs of Bollywood's music world, and of rmim too, Laxmikant-Pyarelal have slowly but steadily carved a niche for themselves in the melody market. Though never ranked along with maestros who have had previous RJGKs dedicated to them, LP's initials bring to your mind film music, as much as they remind you of LongPlay records. Coming into films with a little publicised film like 'Parasmani', which became a grosser solely because of its music, LP gave scores for an amazingly large number of films. Their excellent percussion and ability to adapt folk tunes to suit the common man's tastes is by far one of the major reasons for their success. Despite their being partly responsible for the degeneration of Hindi film music in the 80s, it still remains a fact, that when you are asked to think of a `typical' Hindi film song, and are given a second to do so, there's a decent chance that you'd come up with an LP score. [ Now that of course is a debatable issue on its own, but lets leave the flames out for now and be nice to them till the quiz is over - Renu's opinion :) ] Almost all the songs in this quiz are `hit' songs, which reached the heights of popularity at the time of their release and are hummed even now. LP being MDs more inclined towards catering to the masses, than sticklers for class, have lasted for a long time in the industry, with a career spanning from 1963 to the present. Hence we have tried to select songs from all the eras. [ Golden and Black :)] Following are 27 clues, all from songs set to music by Laxmikant-Pyarelal. There are 25 regular questions and 2 Tie-Breakers. Each clue is followed by a small hint about the song. We have always felt that most RJGKs end up acting like the carrot-dangling-on-the-stick with the answers never actually striking you. Again the two tier system seemed to extend over too long a period of time for a lot of netters. Hence we opted for this slight variation in theme. As always, the tie-breakers will be used in the event of a tie (obviously!) in the first 25 questions. Once again, do not post your replies. Good luck and hope you enjoy participating! ________________________________________________________________________________ -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quiz starts here! ------> 1.
