And yet now and then all we rmimers have been doing so despite knowing that there are no prizes at stake nor any minimum gpa requirements. So it won't be a bad guess if we assume its good fun. For the new comers....its a simple thing, identify the song from the few lines (clues) given below. eg: For the clue Kul khel mein hum ho na ho gardish mein taare rahenge sada The correct answer would be "Jeena yahan marna yahan...." There have been 19 rjgk's prior to this one and all of these can be found in Sami's home page: http://www.lehigh.edu/sm0e/public/www-data/rjgk.html As the theme suggests, the following lines are taken from songs composed by Shankar Jaikishan. All you have to do is identify the song from these lines, and believe me guys, its not difficult. The clues below are not exactly as per the itrans format. But if anyone has any confusion about the pronunciation, lemme know and I'll send ya the exact itrans format for the same. ******************************************************************************* SHANKAR-JAIKISHAN ******************************************************************************* Shankar Singh came to Bombay from Hyderabad and JaiKishan hails from Panchal, Gujrat. The duo worked as musicians under the then-famous Husnlaal-Bhagatraam. Shankar Jaikishan started their career as a music director team from Raj Kapoors Barsaat. Then on, i.e. from 1948, till about 1971 the duo composed music for close to 280 films including numerous hits and probably are the most famous music directors. They literally ruled two decades of Indian filmmusicdom, and their popularity is reflected by the fact that they hold the record for the maximum number (nine) of Filmfare awards. What adds to their popularity is that they gained it during the years when the musical taste of the fans was nurtured by the likes of SDB, Roshan, Naushad, Madan Mohan and others. SJ made a great impact right since they started. Their tunes range from pure Indian classical based (O Basanti pawan paagal, dil ek mandir hain..) to more westernised tunes (Raat ke hamsafar, sukoo sukoo..). They had a distinct style of music and they used it very well for different stars making the right choice of music and singers. Much of Raj Kapoor's and Shammi Kapoor's success was because of SJ's music. RK-SJ team has given us some excellent films which will be cherished forever. It gives me great pleasure in compling this rjgk on Shankar-Jaikishan and I hope you all have as much fun as I had in compiling the quiz. ******************************************************************************* DO NOT POST THE ANSWERS ON THE NET ******************************************************************************* E-mail the answers to njoshi@eng.clemson.edu on or before the 7th of April 1995 -------------------------------cut here---------------------------------------- 1.
