A Kishore solo to give a good start to the quiz. 2. nazreiN milti haiN, jaam milte haiN *a floral duet of the early eighties. Lata & Talat Aziz. An all art-movie-star cast. 3. jab bhi do khwab kisi mod pe mil jaate haiN har andhere mein ujala sa bikhar jaata hai *a poor remake of an earlier better film called "Yeh Nazdeekiyan" about a love triangle. 4. shareer shoKH kiran mujhko choom leti hai *this film was dedicated to the great Faiz Ahmad Faiz and this song was sung by the lyricist's daughter for the first time. A lot of shers/couplets by Faiz were recited in this movie, including Dil na-umeed to nahin, naakaam hi to hai Lambi hai GHam ki shaam magar shaam hi to hai, which incidentally was recited just before the song "Yeh safar bahut hai kaThin magar, na udaas ho mere hamsafar" sung by Shivaji Chattopadhyay in 1942-A Love Story. 5. ab to aaja ki ab raat bhi so gayi *a "palindromically" named singer. One of Khaiyyam's earliest movies. A movie with an English name. This is one of the easiest questions and if I say anymore, I'll give it away. 6. bujha saka hai bhala kaun waqt ke shole *this was played twice in the movie (a "tandem") - once a male solo (Bhupinder), once a female (Asha), but unfortunately the lyrics never varied. This was a very sad movie about a prostitute. 7. narm aanchal se chhanti yeh khushboo mere har khwab par chha gayi hai *lyrics by the father of the lyricist of "ek ladki ko dekha to aisa laga". A Mukesh solo. 8. khoyi khoyi jaauN maiN jo bhi chaahe manvaa le *heroine's debut film. She looks at herself in the mirror and sings. A Lata solo. 9. dhaaga ho to tor bhi DaaruN preet pe kiska jor *this song had outstanding percussion and mindblowing lyrics. Another Lata solo, but with chorus. 10. raakh barbaad mohabbat ki bachaa rakkhi hai *the name of this movie was later repeated as a Govinda starrer. One of Mohd. Rafi's best songs. Incidentally another song from this film featured in a Chitrahaar 2-3 Chitrahaars ago. 11. roko zulf ko yaNhi qaabu dil pe ab nahiN *this singer was extremely popular as playback for the real life brother of this hero. 12. jaage jaage armaaN bheega bheega mausam *she sang with both father and son in her career. A 'tri'- starrer movie with multi-starrer playback. 13. woh dil jo maine maaNga tha magar GHairoN ne paaya tha *the sensual voice of the music director's wife. A piano song and a beautiful, not very popular actress. 14. ek seepee meiN chhup gaya moti jaane kab oas meiN nahaate hue *a south indian actress with an actor whose brother usually scores the music for his movies, but evidently not for this one. This was a crazy film. 15. jaagti jheel ke saahil pe kahiN leke haatoN meiN koi saaz-e-haseeN *duet with a romantic hero of the early seventies in a movie in the early eighties. 16. yaad teri kabhi dastak, kabhi sargoshi se *this singer was 'Ghazal King' some years ago. 17. tu apni har KHushi ko logoN meiN baaTta chal jaane kya GHam ho kisko, har dil meiN jhaakta chal *both uncle and nephew were in this movie. Another Kishore song on a gaudily-lit stage. The meaning of this movie remains a question to this day. 18. kahiN kisi roz yuN bhi hota hamari haalat tumhari hoti *Gulzar and RD made a great team, but this couldn't get any better either. 19. aapke narm zaanoN pe so jayeNge *lyrics by Jaan Nisaar Akhtar. Incidentally a word in the title of this song was under discussion some time ago. An offbeat movie with a social theme and a not very known cast except for Shotgun Sinha. 20. jo kahe woh raat bhar kahe phir bhi na ho kuchh bayaaN *a new voice was introduced in this song. Very unconventionally Khaiyyam. Black & white film, though you may not expect that considering the year. 21. lamha lamha meri aankhon mein khiNchi jaati hai ek chamakti hui talwar ... *a very unusual and new voice, and Nida Fazli's superb lyrics. The ... represents the title of the song (as on cassettes) which follow the lyrics above. 22. jo ishq kareNge woh sadaa aah bhareNge *Khaiyyam's versatility showed even in this funny qawalli. A rare Rafi-Mukesh combination. 23. aaNkhoN meiN tha kaajal aise chaandni raat meiN saawan jaise *this singer is known for his voice supposedly being similar to Mohammed Rafi's. 24. GHair ko aaNkh milane ki tamanna kyuN hai *this masterpiece is by Kaifi Azmi. A beautiful duet very similar to another of Khaiyyam's compositions, of about the same time period. 25. uski saaNsoN mein itr ki mehkaas *A Waheeda song. By the fireplace, an uncommon phenomenon in Hindi movie houses. The Tie-Breakers ---------------- For the tie-breakers, I have selected five from amongst my very favorite songs: NB: These movies are not necessarily distinct and may be from the movies that appear in the Main Quiz. 1. meri mehjabeeN yehi kam hai kya teri hasratoN ka to saath hai *this good-looking actor couldn't have looked worse in his lifetime as he was made to for this movie. A separation song. 2. kisko pata hai ab din hai ki raat hai *one of the most popular romantic pairs of the seventies. A snowy situation. 3. ek ham hi nahiN, sab dekhnewaale tumko *the unbeatable Sahir. A Lata-Yesudas duet. 4. tu ne maar diya qaul-o-qaraar mein mar jaauN na maiN kahiN intezaar meiN re *The name of this movie was not exactly repeated in recent years, but the meaning was exactly the same (i.e. the older movie's name was a Hindi word, and the later movie's name was an Urdu word, though both had exactly the same meaning). 5. Thehre hue paloN meiN zamane bitaaye haiN *A romantic film about a diamond merchant and his wife. The ULTIMATE tie-breaker ------------------------ Take the initial letters of all the movie names from the Main Quiz (1-25), arrange them in no particular order, and extract the names of TWO other Khaiyyam movies NOT used in this quiz. Of course, some letters may be left over, but you should not use the same letter twice if it doesn't occur in the list twice. e.g. ABCDEFGHIJK 'bake' and 'fig' may be extracted, but if 'bake' is extracted, 'face' cannot be because there is only a single 'a' and 'e'.
