From: Ashish Bokil We all await the Spring.... the atmosphere seems to lighten up even with mere mention of this king of seasons. Out with the harassment of winter, the earth starts rolling in a green extravaganza, the trees begin to look like trees, and floral buds give the first indications of the beginning of a life form. There are thousands of buds but not all become flowers. Some of them whither in brutal storms which occasionally come upon to remind everybody of its mortality Yes ! mortality... thats the byword... "Aakhir is nashwar sharir main kaun chirantan raha paayaa hai..?" What remains though are the memories, a faint sketch of the life that the bud has lived. Its fragrance... "Khushboo".... But thats not the end of it. the world does not end here !! one can not make small halts the landmarks of life. Life is just a path where sorrows are like craters, in which lumps of joy fill in to make it even.... A philosophy, deeprooted in gulzar's poetry, is brought about in this movie - Khushboo, which he also directed. It has its good moments and the movie made a mark on the media with its simplicity and thoughtfulness. This song has a beauty of a beat which uses two percussion instruments - Congo and Tabla ( The base of congo and the smaller part of tabla which is actually called a "tabla") simultaneously to give the effect of sailing and water without actual splashes. The recording suits the atmosphere just as well. RD was very innovative in these respects ( so also was Rajesh Roshan ) and these effects you can observe in recordings like Saagar etc. And..... !!! as usual, KK is overpowering...... I just melt inside the music of this song, even when I am just running it in my mind and so if there are any mistakes please bear with me... Beats create the flow of river..... O MaaNjhee re ... Apnaa kinaaraa Nadiyaa ki dhaaraa hai O maaNjhee re ... A high pitched flute interlude here makes you feel the intensity of emotions and the depth of sound.. Saahilon pe behane waale kabhee sunaa to hogaa kaheen O oo OOooo. ho ...ooo kagazon ki kashtiyon kaa kaheen kinaaraa hotaa nahee Ho maaNjhee re ..... maaNjhee re koi kinaaraa jo kinaare se mile wo apnaa kinaaraa hai... O MaaNjhee re ... Violins and flute again play havoc in your mind... Paaniyon main beh rahe hain kain kinaare toote hue O oo OO oo.. ho raaston main mil gaye hain ............ These two lines are too good sabhee sahaare chhute hue... koi sahaaraa majhdhaare main mile wo... apnaa sahaaraa hai ...... O maaNjhee re ... Apnaa kinaaraa.... Nadiyaa ki dhhaaraa hai .... O maaNjhee re ... the sailing beat continues till it fades out... The sailor is gone... Jitendra is sitting with the sailor on the boat and is lost ( whatever best he could manage for that ) in his thoughts... Life goes on... What perplexes me though is the presence of plane-as-a-white-paper Jitendra in this movie. I am still not sure, whether gulzar has this misplaced trust in this wooden block or Jeetendra worked for free in this movie.. that was the only blot in the movie. I still fondly remember this movie, particularly a very likeable role by cute looking Farida Jalal - she wasn't even half as plump (this was the most courteous word I could remember right now ) then and well..! having one of my first (frequently changing) crushes on her then ( I must be in 7th std then in 1980 when I saw this movie the first time )... ashish :::::::::::::::::::::::::::..................:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Dil dhoondtaa hai phir wahi fursat ke raat din .......... ^ ^ (0 0) Ashish S Bokil --ooO I Ooo-- Tel.# (512) 467-8735 (Res) 4559 Avenue A, # 201 \ / ashish@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu Austin TX 78751 - - ````````````````````````````""""""""""""""""""'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
