From: Ashish Bokil Namaskaar ! Hum kaafi Dinon ke baad mil rahe hain ... samajh main nahee aataa ki baat kahaan se shuru karoon .... chitrapat sangeet ke ek adwitiya adhyaay ki samaapti par awsaad vyakt karoon yaa un puraane pannon ke beech barson se sahej kar rakhe hue mahakate hue phoolon ki mahak se apnaa dil behalaa loon. Gha.m ke bahaane aur bhee hain ashish hum teri yaad main geet hi gungunaa lenge What started from Chhote Nawaab ( Ghir ghir aaye badarwaa..) was a tiny droplet which began taking shape through Bhoot Bangla (Jaago Sonewaalon ..), Teesri Manzil ( the Watershed in the Film Music ), Caravan, etc. The musicians (even his contemporaries) give him full credit for starting the trend of using western instruments in an Indianized fashion. But this was more of a Boyish musician in RD. The older generation failed to identify with those tunes while the younger generation couldn't have enough of them. This was when RD came up with extremely mature Aandhi, Parichay, Khushboo (Incidently all Gulzar combos) and Amar Prem, Kati Patang ( with Anand Bakshi ) followed by Kinara, Sitara which put him in the category of All Time Greats. His tunes had this typical RD flavor which made them stand out from tons of others. They were simply a treat to the ears. His music was never unbalanced. It always sought to bring forth meaningful lyrics ( Meraa kuchh saamaan.. , Is mod se jaate hain.., Jaane kyaa sochkar .. ) and subdue the run of the mill stuff ( Dukki pe dukki ho .., Piyaa tu ab to aajaa ..., Ek main aur ek tu ...). He always had a surprise or two in the notes or chords or in some other way in his songs - a trait, he inherited from his glorious father SDB. His passion for experimentation never died until he himself did. A couple of songs of Dil Padosi Hai ( joothey tere naina , Ummeed hogi koi etc.. ) are difficult in every respect. While Asha Bhosle gave them their due by singing them perfectly, the songs bespeak the genious of the composer. zehan main khayaalon kaa dariyaa purzor hai aur lafzon main use qaid karnaa kadam dar kadam mushkil ho rahaa hai ... har lamhe par mausiqi kaa ek nayaa andaaz hai, har mod par ek nayaa geet hai aur ek naye safar ki shuruaat..... na jaane kis mod pe kis raaste kaa haath thhaame chale thhey ki ab sirf pairon ke nishaan nazar aate hain...... Lata - Is mod se jaate hain kuchh sust qadam raste kuchh tez qadam raahen Is mod se jaate hain kuchh sust qadam raste kuchh tez qadam raahen KK - Patthhar ki haweli ko ] KK's voice in this song is simply sheeshe ke gharondon main ] breath taking. It sounds so full and tinkon ke nasheman tak ] brings out the desperation that SK is mod se jaate hain ... ] protrays in the movie, extremely well Lata - AaaaAAa.. is mod se jaate hain... ingenuity flows in this interlude as Violin, Sarod, Sitar notes and flute play havoc in the atmosphere much as what goes on in the minds of Sanjeev Kumar and Suchitra Sen...... Lata - aandhi ki terah udkar ik raah guzarati hai aandhi ki terah udkar ik raah guzarati hai sharmaati hui koi kadmon se utarti hai in reshami raahon main ik raah to woh hogi tum tak pahunchati hai is mod se jaati hai is mod se jaate hain .... Sarod..........~~~~...... Just as the interlude goes on let me make a short remark on the music in this interlude ... RD has used guitar chords with tabla, which was then, in normal circumstances, a no-no since tabla is purely an Indian music instrument and guitar a western music one. and in 1975 when Aandhi was released, not many people liked mixing the two so very frequently. In fact, many people who did mix the two type of instruments in the song used to adopt congo beats during the interlude and revert back to tabla just as the stanza begins. This is one of the surprises that I was refering to earlier in the article. ....Hmm.. get ready for the awe inspiring voice of KK for the second stanza ... KK - Ik door se aati hai paas aake palatathi hai ik door se aati hai paas aake palatathi hai ik raah akeli si rukathi hai na chalati hai Lata - ye soch ke baithi hoon ik raah to woh hogi tum tak jo pahunchati hai is mod se jaati hai Lata - is mod se jaate hain kuchh sust qadam raste kuchh tez qadam raahen KK - patthhar ki haweli ko sheeshe ke gharondon main tinkon ke nasheman tak is mod se jaate hain... Lata - is mod se jaate hain... Perhaps, creativity has bounds... if not otherwise, the existence itself binds it. The footprints, RD has left on the sands of time, lead us everywhere. He moved through every type of music with the same ease and has been able to contribute to it something unique. His versatility was his best strength. Be it "Mere Sapnon ki raani" (Yes!! this was RD's composition - as per a musician in RD and SD's group) or "Meethey bol boley paayaliyaa" or "Jaane Jaa.n dhoondhataa phir rahaa"... or "Tujhse naaraz nahee zindagi hairaan hoon"....he was a pleasure to tune to... This is my tribute to this creator..... ashish :::::::::::::::::::::::::::..................:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Dil dhoondtaa hai phir wahi fursat ke raat din .......... ^ ^ (0 0) Ashish S Bokil --ooO I Ooo-- Tel.# (512) 467-8735 (Res) 4559 Avenue A, # 201 \ / ashish@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu Austin TX 78751 - - ```````````````````````````"""""""""""""""""""'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
