From: Ashish Bokil Ek arsaa beet gayaa ... .......................bilkul aisaa hi lagtaa hai ... kabhee kabhee jab kisise jaan pehchaan ke binaa bhee apnepan kaa ehsaas hotaa hai ya phir usmain insaan apni zindagi ki koi tasveer khojane lagtaa hai ... tab uskaa achaanak chale jaanaa ek azeeb si maayusi bhar detaa hai. jeevan kaa ek stambh hilane kaa ishaaraa detaa hai .. aur imaarat kuchh hi palon main Dhah jaati hai ..use girne se rokne kaa maukaa bhee nahee miltaa .. reh jaate hain to sirf wo chand dhhage jinse yaaden judi hoti hain !!.. aur naa se dikhaai denewaale ye dhhaage bhee bahut mazbooti se in yaadon ko baandhe rakhte hain. Har lamhaa, jaane anjaane, un beeti hui nishaaniyon ko saaye ki terah sanjoye rakhtaa hai jo maukaa paate hi nazaron se roobroo ho jaati hain magar phir binaa bataaye ojhal ho jaati hain .. aur unki talaash main raat din kaa safar tay hotaa rehataa hai. Raat raat nahee rehati ... sirf kaalikh ki ek chaadar ban jaati hai..jisme dil ke daag chhupaaye jaa sakte hain ... ye kambakht aankhen bhee to band nahee hoti.. birhaa ki agni se nikli andekhee roshni main kisi saaye ki talaash main jaagti rehati hain ... ..... Beeti naa bitaaye raina .... Ideas were something RD - Gulzar combo never lacked. Constant experimentation with the situation and composition of the lyrics (I mean, the way the lyrics are written & not the tune composition) was Gulzar's passion."Tere Bina zindagi" (discussed earlier in this series) was the trend setter in a way that dialogues were inserted in the middle of the song to emphasize the emotions that the song resonated with. This was later very effectively utilized by Yash Chopra in Silsila where the legendary voice of Amitabh embossed his passionate delivery. The Aandhi song went on in the background while the dialogues were actually spoken lending credence to the fact that the emotions flowing within were the same as being conveyed by the song.. this is what is termed as building up the atmosphere. If a good song ( or a composition ) is backed with this attribute too then one is filled with the emotions exactly as they were in the movie just as one hums the song. this is when true enjoyment is achieved - to enjoy the feelings that the lyrics, the music and the back- ground are generating. Its for this reason that most of us enjoy film music more than the nonfilm one. It gives an image to the thinking. Another such experiment that the duo made successfully was in this song from Parichay. Sanjeev Kumar holds the sitar (and that's all he does with it :) as he still fondly remembers his love. His daughter (Jaya Bhaduri) sings the song that pulls the delicate string connecting the heart to the sitar and the memories flash into his mind.... Lets get on to the song right away... we'll discuss the intricacies as we go on .. ... Sitar ..... ( the actual one.... not the one that sanjeev kumar holds..) gets the song going.. as Lata takes up ... Lata - Beete naa bitaaye rainaa Birhaa ki jaayi rainaa Bheegee hui ankhiyon ne laakh bujhaayi rainaa (!!!!!!!! Couldn't have had a better reference to the "birhaa ki agni" !!! ) Beete naa bitaaye rainaa ( the whole x 2 ) Sitar interlude with high pitched flute ... !!!! listen to it if you haven't.. its touching ... Lata - Beeti hui paatiyaan koi doharaaye .... Bhule hue naamon se .. koi to bulaaye ........... Chaand..... ho ho ..... ho ho ooo .... ho ho ... and here ... the daughter doesn't remember the song completely.. and father who is languishing.. just can not bear the incomplete rendition of this song .. ( I wouldn't either if I were him ..) and takes up from there ... what a way of showing the continuity .(similar style was later used by RK in satyam shivam sundaram when padmini kolhapure took the lead as the father bursts into asthamatic stroke).... the thread wasn't broken ... he continued.... Bhupinder - ho Oo .. Chand ki bindi waali ... bindi waali ratiyaa.. jaagi hui ankhiyon main raat naa aayee rainaa Beete naa bitaaye rainaa..... Interlude ... is what happens when RD uses Sitar, Flute, music box, sitar, violin and finally sitar .... the combination fits every portion... never does it sound over worked or stretched even infinitesimally longer.. the instruments are interspersed in the order in which I have mentioned them above and the result while leaving the music lovers escatic, enhances the anguish that it seeks to ellucidate ... Bhupinder - Yug aate hain ... aur yug jaayen .. Chhoti Chhoti yaadon ke ....and the pain becomes unbearable ... father stops .. but the continuity should not be lost ... it would cause more pain to father... so daughter continues .. Lata - .....................................bal nahee jaayen.. jhooth se kaali laage ... laage kaali ratiyaa.. ruthi hui ankhiyon ne laakh manaaye rainaa Both - Beete naa bitaaye rainaa ..... ................... Aaj bahut dinon baad is maalaa main ek aur moti pirone kaa man huaa ... RD's untimely sad demise has deprived us of many a moment of effervascent music that was so characteristic of him... neither did I know RD personally nor did I ever have the privilege of meeting the great soul .. but the loss seems to be so personal ... so private... that it almost seems to be ridiclous..... iktarafaa aur swarthi bandhan thhaa ye .. jisme maine sirf kuchh paayaa hi hai kabhee kuchh khoyaa nahee ... aisi dharohar jo bant ke bhee kam naa ho ......!!!! bas yahee khayal hai ... jaane ke bahaane aur bhee hain... tere aane kaa sabab dil dhoondhtaa hai .. ashish :::::::::::::::::::::::::::..................:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: hum hi naadaa.N they jo oDhaa beeti yaadon kaa kafan ... varnaa jeene ke liye sab kuchh bhulaa lete hain log ... ^ ^ (0 0) Ashish S Bokil --ooO I Ooo-- Tel.# (512) 467-8735 (Res) 4559 Avenue A, # 201 \ / ashish@ccwf.cc.utexas.edu Austin TX 78751 - - ```````````````````````````"""""""""""""""""""'''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''
