Song: Tere Kaanton Se Bhi Pyaar, Tere Phulon Se Bhi Pyaar
Jo Bhi Dena Chaahe~, Dede Kartaar, Duniya Ke
Taaranhaa~r

        Film: Nastik (1954)
        Music: Ramchandra Chitalkar
        Lyrics: Kavi Pradeep
        Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
*ing: Ajit, Nalini Jaywant, I S Johar

Amrit Aur Zahar Dono Hain Saagar Me Ek Saath, Manthan Ka Adhikaar
Hai Sabko, Phal Prabhu Tere Haath -- This is how this lovely song
starts. I love everything about this song: lyrics, music and
Lata's divine singing. Chitalkar's use of sitaar/mandolin is too
good.

The most famous song from the film was Pradeep's 'Dekh Tere
Sansaar Ki Haalat Kya Ho Gayi Bhagwaan, Kitna Badal Gayaa
Insaan'. He sung it too, and sung it quite well. One more song
which, for some unknown reasons, remains my favourite since
childhood is
'Jai Jai Raam Raghuraai, Jai Jai Krishana Kanhaai'

sung by Lata and chorus. Young Snehal (when some 6-7 years old)
used to remember this song as 'Jai Jai Ramal Durai'!! I could
never gather the words of this song properly, from Radio Ceylone,
then. It just fascinates me. In fact all Nastik songs, do.

Then, we have fabulous chorus songs. One by Hemant and Lata is
very nice:

Gagan Zanzanaa Raha, Pawan Sansanaa Raha
        O~~ Naiya Waale Ho, Saa~wadhaan

Lata's short "taans" are superb. Chitalkar-Lata-chorus 'Zor
Lagaale' is also not too far behind. Bass effect by Hemant while
singing "Sawdhaan" is very good. A good choice of singers by
Ramchandra.

Finally, a song where strong folk traditions from next door has
all it's say and Ramchandra just does orchestration. Yes, a song
that is based on Gujarati garba dhun:
Kaanha Bajaaye Bansuri, Aur Gwaale Bajaaye Manjire
        Ke Gopiyan Naache Thirak? Ke.....

This song always reminds a song from Gujarati film Mehandi Rang
Laagyo. Music was set in by a great composer-poet Avinash Vyas.
The song I am relating to is:

Mehandi Te Waavi, MaaLave Ne, Eno Rang Gayo Gujaraat Re
        Mehandi Rang Laagyo ...

Both songs have exactly same meter. But I like this Gujarati song
over CR's Nastik number. My problem is with lyrics. I am unable
to correlate "manjira" with Bansuri and dance of Gopis! Or was it
just to fit the meter. Hence my doubt, if Mehandi Rang Lagyo was
in 1953 or earlier ? I don't underrate Ram Chitalkar or Avinash
Vyas, but it is interesting.
