Song: Ai Dil Tu Kahin Le Chal (2)
Film: Shole (1953) [ or you may like to spell it
'Sholay' ! ]
Music: Naresh Bhattacharya
Lyrics: Kamil Rashid
Singer: Hemant Kumar, Shamshad Begum
*ing: Ashok Kumar, Bina Roy
Director: B R Chopra
First, I would like to sincerely thank my netter friend in
Germany - Sreeni; (Sreenivas Paruchuri) who has provided me with
some very important details on the song. Namely cast and names(!)
of music directors; along with who made this film.
Well, if you noticed; I say "names of MDs". According to Sreeni
there are two MDs; namely Naresh Bhattacharya and Dhaniram. Now
the reason I have written the name of former is I vaguely
remember that being the name given by the announcer before
playing the 78 rpm. But could be Dhaniram too. With that
clarification I would also like to add here that this *not* the
*only* duet of Hemanto and Shamshad. There exist at least one
more. Don't remember the name of movie now.
This particular song is tandem. Another version is by Hemant
Kumar alone. The solo version starts slowly and the opening lines
are sung at low pace without orchestral support and then it joins
later. In duet version the orchestra is right from the beginning.
Both the versions are enjoyable. The duet is more catchy owing to
change of rhythm during change from Hemant to Shamshad after
mukhada; and then again after the antara.
The other information from Sreeni tells us that, this was B. R.
Chopra's third film.
