Song: Man Ki Been Matwaari Baaje

        Film: Shabaab (1954)
        Music: Naushad
        Lyrics: Shakeel
        Singer: Mohammad Rafi, Lata Mangeshkar
        *ing: Bharat Bhushan, Nutan

I don't know abc of classical, but guess this song opens with
Tilang notes. I don't like Rafi's part much, for I find him not
upto the mark compared to Lata, who recites flawlessly. In any
case, a great song.

According to many this was Naushad's best effort. May be; as all
songs are gems. My favourite happens tobe Rafi's rendition based
on Tilang notes

Yehi Armaan Le Kar Aaj Apne Ghar Se Ham Nikle
        ???? ??? ??? ??? ???? Tere Kuche Pe Dam Nikle

Rafi sings it with a touch of emotions. Other Rafi solo 'Aye Na
Baalam Wada Kar Ke' is good. Shabaab has a set of Lata songs,
that can be termed as best of Lata for Naushad. 'Jo Main Jaanati
Bisrat Hain Sainya' is on top there. And then we have these twin
songs: 'Jogan Ban Aayi Hun' and 'Jogan Ban Jaungi'. Former
remained only on film's sound-track. We also have two haunting
songs in 'Mar Gaye Hum Jeete Ji Maalik Tere Sansaar Me' and
'Marana Teri Gali Me, Jeena? Teri Gali Me, Mit Jayegi Hamari
Duniya Teri Gali Me'.

I am sure readers of this series will add on; especially about
Ust. Amirkhan saheb's songs from the film. I suppose, there also
exists a song sung by Durrani and Shamshad in the film. It's a
nice, light duet. Words have escaped from memory-bank. :(

But before I conclude let me note one more favourite song of
mine. Yes, you guessed that; it's indeed

Chandan Ka Palanaa, Resham Ki Dori, Zula Zulaaen Tu Soja
Chakori

Although, in the current format too, it is great; in my most
humble opinion Naushad should have desisted from introducing Lata
towards the end. I mean, Hemant sounds so supreme and divine
here, even Lata has failed sustaining the divinity. This is
perhpas the only song Hemant sung for Naushad; what a song ?!
Made it immortal. His stamp is so profound, this will be
remebered first as Hemant's lori and then as a creation of
Naushad.
