#18 Song: Zum-Zum Ke Do Diwaane Gaate Jaayen Gali-Gali Apani Dhun Me Masti Ka Paigam Sunayen Gali-Gali Film: Mastaana (1954) Music: Madan Mohan Lyrics: Rajendra Krishna Singer: Mohammad Rafi, Laxmi Shankar *ing: Motilal, Nigar Sultana Director: Harman Singh Rawail I was thinking to start a series (within ATMJH framework) on singing music composers. I counted some 18-19 names that became eligible by time. (As they all sung before 1960.) Then I picked up a song from this film to start with. And my second thought was about popularity of the song. Historically this is song (appearing today) is the *most* popular from the film. In the past, I received mild complains regarding omitting the what- should-be-first-pick from the film. I have also stated in the past that popular songs are good too. This one is fabulous. This tells us, that Chitragupta has rose to the levels of Madan Mohan and Ramchandra Chitalkar (occasionally). This song reminds me quality of music Madan Mohan produced for Railway Platform. The use of dilruba (or is it mandolin?) is very good. I don't know any other Laxmi Shankar songs in films.
