Singing Musicians - 3
#27
Song: Jala Kar Aag Dil Me, Zindagi Barbaad Karate Hain
Na Jeete Hain Na Marate Hain, Na Kuchh Fariyaad
Karate Hain
Film: Tufan (1954)
Music: Shiv Dayal Batish
Lyrics: Kaif Irfani
Singer: Shiv Dayal Batish
*ing: Sajjan, Amarnath, Munawar Sultana, Pran
S. D. Batish; does not require any introduction. He is known by
his popular songs of Barsat Ki Raay (MD Roshan) and Kaise Kahun
(MD Madan Mohan). He has composed music for few films. The other
film which I know has his music is Haar Jeet (1952). In this
song, he has poured all the 'dard' of the world. The tune is
extremely good. The pause before the last line of each antra and
the piece of music there afer is unmatched. For example in the
following stanza:
Nahin Apani Koi Manzil Kahan Jnae Kidhar Jnae
Sahaara Maut Ka Hai, Maut Ko Ham Yaad Karate
Hain... Na Jeete...
The same musical piece is used after that pause in each stanza.
Other notable song of the film was sung by Lata Mangeshkar:
'Khaab Me Hamako Bulate Ho, Ye Kya Karate Ho
Pyaar Ki Mithi Neend Churate Ho Ye Kya Karate Ho'
with a stress on "Neend" and then suddenly she sings faster the
remaining line!
Will talk about Haar Jeet songs later. (One of my Lata favourite
is from that.)
