Unsung Musicians - 4 #270 Song: Phir Yaad Aa Rahaa Hai, Bita Hua Zamaana, Bita Hua Zamaa~~na Ujadaa? ???? ??? ????, Ab Khatm Hai Fasaana, Ab Khatm Hai Fasana Film: Shishe Ki Diwar (1952?) Music: Shankar Dasgupta Lyrics: Manmohan Sabir Singer: Madhubala Zaveri *ing: ? This Madhubala song has moving tune -- a melody that echoes itself from everywhere, much like koel's sweet calls coming from all direction in an "amraai". Arresting number indeed. It starts with a couplet: 'Man Hi Man Me Laagi Pyaas ..." (I tried hard to decipher words from poor radio recording but ... :() When I heard this song for the first time, I couldn't catch film/singer name. I believed it to be Lata -- an early one. This is because, song is sung in a style that we associate with Noorjehan. Also Madhubala Zaveri's thin but sweet voice resembles with that of early Lata's. Anyway she disproves any theory (if one exists) that only Lata can do such enganging numbers by this gem. I am restricted by the charter of ATMJH, but without mentioning other songs of this film, I will add that this is a desert island soundtrack for me.
