Song:   Is dil ki haalat kya kahiye
                Jo shaad bhi hai
                Nashaad bhi hai

        Film:   Anhonee (1952)
        Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
        Music:  Roshan
        Lyrics: Sardar Jafri
        *ing:   Nargis, Raj Kapoor

My favorite tune from this marvellous Roshan  soundtrack,  filled
with  gems  by  Lata  and  Talat,  and  a  curiously worded Lata-
Rajkumari duet ('Zindagi badli mohabbat  ka  mazaa  aane  lagaa',
which appeared on ATMJH a while ago).

I find something very ethereal about this song- it sounds like  a
tune  that  came  to  the composer in a brief, brilliant flash of
inspiration. One of the things I absolutely adore in  this  piece
are  the lovely flute interludes interspersed liberally among the
violins and soulful vocal strains- mellifluous  pieces  of  short
length  that  integrate the words and the music into one coherent
melody. A truly magnificent work of art.

PS Just read the sad news of the passing of  "The  Man  With  The
Velvet Voice". One by one, the links to our golden past are being
broken, and it is up to us to keep the memories and the treasures
alive.  In memoriam, and as a tribute to the memory of one of the
gentlest voices of the golden age, I'll spend  the  next  several
posts on some of the unforgettable melodies of Talat Mehmood. May
his soul rest in peace.

PPS I shall be on vacation for almost a month  starting  May  18,
but  I'll  try  to  continue  posting  to  ATMJH,  albeit  a  bit
sporadically.
