        Song:   Shukriyaa ae pyaar tera
                Shukriyaa Shukriyaa
Dil ko kitna khubsoorat gham diyaa
                Shukriyaa

        Film:   Aaram (1951)
        Music:  Anil Biswas
        Lyrics: Rajendra Krishan
        Singer: Talat Mahmood
        *ing:   Madhubala, Dev Anand, Premnath

In addition to an exquisite playback artiste, Talat, as  everyone
knows,  also  did  his bit on the screen. I'll spend the next few
posts on Talat songs picturized on himself.

This effusive melody has Talat in a guest  appearance,  giving  a
performance  at  a  private  function.  One of Anilda's memorable
compositions, its evocatively penned lines are intended  to  echo
the  sentiments  of  one  of  the  main  characters  in the movie
(Premnath), who has ended up on the wrong corner  of  a  romantic
triangle.  Talat's  soulfully  plaintive  larynx very effectively
conveys the inherent anguish in the graceful  acceptance  of  the
inevitable. A desert-island track- simply haunting.

My personal opinion is that taken all  together,  this  movie  is
Anilda's  best  soundtrack  to date. There is simply NO bad, sub-
par, OK,  etc.  song  in  it-  they're  all  simply  magnificent,
especially  the  series  of  Lata solos, all but one of which are
picturized on Madhubala (which doesn't hurt a bit !). And who can
forget Mukesh's wondrous 'Ae jaan-e-jigar dil mein samaane aa ja'
?
