        Song:   Hazaaron rang badlegaa zamaana
                Na badlegaa mohabbat ka fasaana
                Mohabbat ka fasaana

        Film:   Shirin Farhad (1956)
        Singer: Mohammed Rafi
        Music:  S Mohinder
        Lyrics: Tanvir Naqvi
        *ing:   Pradeep Kumar, Madhubala

This  tune  must  ring  a  strident  deja  vu  for   RMIMehfil'98
attendees-  one  of the two all-time favorites from Mohinder-ji's
most celebrated soundtrack  (the  other  one,  of  course,  being
"Guzraa  hua  zamaana  aata  nahin  dubaara").  A lush, uplifting
melody matched with an equally spirited rendition from Rafi.  Add
to  that  the  vision  of  an impassioned Pradeep Kumar furiously
hacking away at what seems to be a styrofoam  mountain,  and  the
illusion is complete.

It's another of those songs where the words,  the  tune  and  the
rendition  are  all  exactly on the same wavelength, which adds a
stark sincerity to the song,  and  consequently  multiplies  it's
appeal, both aurally and visually.

I recollect a recent thread on RMIM regarding  multiple  playback
singers lending their voice to the same actor/actress in the same
movie. Here's another instance of it; Pradeep Kumar, at different
junctures,  sings  through the voice of Rafi ("hazaaron rang.."),
Talat ("sunaaoon kis ko afsaana..")  and  Hemantda  ("ae  dilruba
jaan-e-wafaa").  Madhubala, on the other hand, is less dynamic in
her  voice-changes,  borrowing  only  from  Lata   ("guzraa   hua
zamaana..") and Asha ("khushiyon ko lootkar yahaan..").
