(This is really an ill-fated  post.  It's  the  fourth  time  I'm
trying to get this across - Heaven help me !)

#381

Song:   Aayi bahaar jiya doley mora
Jiya doley mora jiya doley re
Jagaa hai pyaar man boley mora
Man boley mora man boley re

        Film:   Arzoo (1950)
        Singer: Lata Mangeshkar, chorus
        Music:  Anil Biswas
        Lyrics: Prem Dhawan
*ing:   Dilip Kumar, Kamini Kaushal (?)

I find this song very amusing for the way it is sung by Lata ; in
his  biography,  RB  refers  to  Lata  in  her early years as the
Marathi Noor Jehan, and this song vouches  for  it.  Her  singing
style  is distinctly Noor-Jehan-esque, as is the sweetness in her
voice (probably even more so).  And  her  diction  is  distinctly
Maharashtrian.  (In  fact,  isn't  there  a  story of Dilip Kumar
indirectly snubbing her about her Marathi accent  in  some  local
train  in Bombay in the late 40s sometime ? IIRC, Anilda was also
present when this happened).

This song, in fact, seems to have a Maharashtrian chorus to boot.
The  second  antaraa suggests it- I tried to translit. it exactly
the way it is sung :

[Lata]
saaw-uh-n aaya ri sakhii dhuum machaata sakhii dhuum machaata
saaw-uh-n aaya ri sakhii dhuum machaata sakhii dhuum machaata
    r-ee-mjhim r-ee-mjhim r-ee-mjhim gaata
    r-ee-mjhim r-ee-mjhim r-ee-mjhim gaata
[chorus]
rimjhim  rimjh-eee-m  rimjhim  rimjh-eee-m   (sounds   really
funny, this)
    rimjhim rimjh-eee-m rimjhim rimjh-eee-m
[Lata]
karo solaa si.Ngaar chalo saajan ke dwaar
    dhiirey dhiirey
[chorus]
    dhiirey..
[Lata]
dhiirey  dhiirey  ghu.NghaT  paT  kholey  re
[chorus]
    aayi bahaar...

Very Marathi  pronounciations-  esp.  the  "saaw-uh-n"s  and  the
"rimjh-eee-m"s.  The song is wonderful, btw- jubilant, refreshing
very melodious, and Lata is diabetically sweet. I  love  the  way
the  solo  co-ordinates  with the chorus... a nice, fluid flow to
it.

"Arzoo" is another wealth of Lata beauties - here's the  list  of
them, in addition to this, all solos :

1 mera naram karejwa Dol gayaa koii pyaar ki bolii  bol  gayaa
2 kahaa.N  tak  hum  uThaaye.N  gham  jiye  ab  yaa  ke mar jaaye
3 aa.Nkho.N se duur jaake jaana na hum se duur
4 unhe.N hum jo  dil se bhulaane lagey, woh kuchh aur bhii yaad
  aane lagey

One of my earlier ATMJH posts triggered off a  protracted  thread
on MD-Poets... let me try to start another here : MD-singers. The
motivation for this is a rather nice song on the Arzoo soundtrack
sung by Anilda himself :
hame.N maar chalaa yeh khayaal yeh gham
na idhar ke rahey na udhar ke rahey

So here're some I can think of, off the top of my head :

1  Anil Biswas
2  S D Burman
3  C Ramchandra
4  R  D  Burman
5  Pankaj  Mullick (?)
6  Madan Mohan (didn't he sing a song in one of his movies ?)
7  Kishore Kumar
8  Hemant Kumar
9  ...

I'm curious to know if there are any more.
