Song:   Badli mein chhupe chaand ne kuchh mujhse kahaa hai
Humne bhi sunaa hai, humne bhi sunaa hai
Gaati huii ik geet nayaa aayi havaa hai
Humne bhi sunaa hai, humne bhi sunaa hai

        Film:   Shatranj (1956)
        Singer: Lata Mangeshkar, Hemant Kumar
        Music:  C Ramchandra
        Lyrics: Rajinder Krishan
        *ing:   Ashok Kumar, Meena Kumari

There is a class of songs  I've  categorized  as  "overkillable",
meaning  I  would  probably  buy an entire cassette, CD or even a
boxed set just to own a certain song on it. This would have to be
one  of  them: a glorious number demonstrating a fabled chemistry
at work again. The words  are  laced  with  a  lush  romanticism,
displaying  a  warm  sense  of  belonging (that sometimes gets as
territorial as a barracuda:-)). And they find a perfect  home  in
CR's  gentle  music; it would almost seem that the lyrics and the
tune were created concurrently and cooperatively.  The whole song
has  a  nice, conversational feel to it, that makes it sound that
much more intimate, like in :

(he)  do chaand chamakte hain main kis chaand ko dekhuun
(she) us chaand ko main chhod ke is chaand ko dekhuun... etc.

both are actually listening to what the other person  is  saying,
unlike some other romantic duets, where each one goes on  his/her
own  poetic  trip  in  the antaraas and only come together at the
mukhaDa.

As redundant as  this  is  to  belabor,  Lata  and  Hemantda  are
exquisite  in  their ever-so-soft rendition of this melody.. they
kind of complete the triumph of an inherent winner.

I tell you, not much went wrong in this song.
