October 13 marked the 11th(?) death anniversary of Kishore  Kumar
; some of his early ones in memoriam.

Saigal's influence on Kishore-da's music shows  clearly  in  this
early  song  of his (as it does in almost all of his early ones),
composed by his mentor (and other idol).  It's  a  soft,  wistful
tune,  that  spans  a fairly wide range of notes ; I like the way
his voice softens with the high notes in the antaraas, e.g. :

        chaand ki sheetal sheetal kirne birhaa ke  baan  chalaaye
        raat  chaandni  diyaa  jalaaye  ang  mein  aag lagaaye...

         Maybe it's because the version of this song that I  have
is  of  compromised  quality,  but  the  deeper forcefulness that
trademarked Kishore-da's later voice is almost completely  absent
in  this  one... with it's velvety feel and intermittent baritone
lapses (that sound great, btw) you could almost fool someone into
believing  it  is  C  H Atma (one of my favorite singers, I might
mention),  or someone.
