Noor Jehan, ?
It's a tough call for me to decide which Noor Jehan solo
from this
desert island soundtrack I like best - this one, "kis tarah
bhuulega
dil unka khayaal aaya huaa" or "baiThii huun terii yaad
ka lekar
ke sahaara" - each competes with the other in sweetness,
melody
and rather fascinating musical patterns. All compositions
are quite
intricate, requiring tremendous voice control to maneuvre
the notes
without compromising on the sweetness. This one is especially
a
roller-coaster - the second line, "chupke se... galiyon
mein aaya"
travels along some heady curves and dips, but the "mallika"
comes
off triumphant.
Some disarming lyrics to, in the antaraas - here's one :
lagtaa hai
merii aankhon mein aashaaon ka melaa
sapnon mein
huaa karta hai baalam se jhamelaa (quaint, huh ?)
nainon kii
madhur biina pe kya raag sunaaya
chupke se
mere nainon kii galiyon mein aaya
There's a soundtrack I'd like to own !
..Hrishi
PS Just a couple of notifiers - I'm moving town and will
likely be
off the net for as long as a month, definitely for 2 weeks.
I was
going to post the next edition of Translator's Nightmare
(#5) a
few days ago (it's sitting on my home computer, all beta-tested
and
ready to be posted), but I realized I may be off the net
by the time
it's time to post results/reminders, etc. so I decided to
hold off
till I'm re-netted, which should hopefully be by mid-Jan.
Which brings me to another thing, the "hrishi@slb.com" address
will
defunct effective tomorrow (Dec 19) ; my permanent email
address
is "hrishi@excite.com".
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays, all !
