Song:
sapnaa ban saajan aaye
hum dekh dekh muskaaye
yeh nainaa bhar aaye sharmaaye
sapnaa ban saajan aaye
Film:
Shokhiyaan (1951)
Singer:
Lata Mangeshkar
Music:
Jamal Sen
Lyrics:
Kidar Sharma
*ing:
Premnath, Suraiyya
I waxed eloquent enough about Jamal Sen's peerless music
when I
posted the 'Daaera' song a while ago, so I won't replay
the
eulogy here. Suffice to say this is another one of his splendid
contributions - the entire 'Shokhiyaan' soundtrack in general
(which, as expected, is dominated by Suraiyya) , this song
in
particular. An overpowering, classically inclined melody,
and
omigod, that voice again !
A short prelude starts the song off :
soyii kaliyaa.n hans paDii, jhukey laaj se nain
biina kii jhankaar mei.n tarpan laage bain <--
what does this mean ?
This song is available on the audiotape version of HMV's
Lata
Mangeshkar Rare Gems compilation (the CD version cruelly
cuts
out all pre-1953 songs from the tape set - gems like this
one,
"abhi to main jawaan huun" from Afsaana, etc.)
What raaga this song is in ? Its similar to the 'chandan
sa badan'
one (if indeed that be a raaga).
