"Once More..", #6.
This is yet another instance of a song whose rendition
aligns itself
perfectly with it's words. This is an attribute that
unfailingly
affects the way the song speaks to you. With the
musical giants who
populated the HFM landscape in the golden era, songs
like these were by
no means a rare occurrence, and a fair amount of
discussion has been
triggered on RMIM in the past on this, if I'm not
mistaken.
Such songs cannot be listened to indifferently. They
make the listener
a part of the story they tell and the emotions they
express, whatever
they may be. Which is why I'd say pick the right
time to listen to
them, else a sad song like this one will yank a depressed
mood a few
feet further below :-) Just as we instinctively participate
in the
jubilation that "phaili hui hai sapnon ki baahen"
celebrates, we cannot
help but brood over the stark disappointment and
hopeless despair that
weaves through this soulful dirge. Beautifully composed
and sung, and
written with a simple but true sense of resignation.
ae dil le chal ab yeh nagari mujhe raas na aayi hai..
har ek bhalaai ka badla duniya mein buraai hai...
