Song: deep jal rahaa hai magar roshni kahaan
saans chal rahi hai magar zindagi kahaan

Film: Andher Nagri Chaupat Raja (1955)
 Singer: Talat Mahmood
 Music: Avinash Vyas
 Lyrics: Bharat Vyas
 *ing: ?

#10.

This is very similar in spirit to the previous song I posted: slow,
deep, mournful, futile, and like most of Avinash Vyas' compositions,
unequivocally melodious. The song starts off in a gentle rhythm, with
opening bars that sound like a cross between the preludes of "aa neele
gagan taley pyaar hum karein" (Lata,Hemantda in Badshaah, 1954) and
"chaand madham hai aasmaan chup hai" (Lata in Railway Platform, 1955).
And thereon the song proceeds in a melodious cloud of gloom, as Talat
feelingly articulates the despair in the song...

kya sazaa de unko jinka yeh qusoor hai
dil ke paas hai magar nazar se door hai
sur machal rahey hain magar baansuri kahaan
saans chal rahi hai magar zindagi kahaan..

Hindi films have not seen as much of this prolific Gujarati composer as
it should have. Considering his staggering repertoire in Gujarati
cinema though, I guess he just didn't have enough time to devote to
HFM. Which is sad, because based on what little I've heard of his
output, he would surely have ranked among the greats.

Listing time again. Apart from this movie, I can remember only one
other Avinash Vyas soundtrack- "Vaaman Avtaar". More ?
