#44 Song: Thandi Thandi Sawan Ki Fuhar Piya Aaj Khidaki Khuli Mat Chhodo Film: Jagate Raho (1956) Music: Salil Chowdhury Lyrics: Shailendra Singer: Asha Bhonsle *ing: Raj Kapoor, Motilal, Nargis, Pradeep Kumar, Iftekhar, Suchitra Sen (?) I guess musically 'Jago Mohan Pyare' was the best song from the film. But, when it comes to singing, it's Asha who won the race in this film by this lone song. Very light orchestra, typical to Salil-da's, with very effective use of bansuri and sitar, adds to sharpness of the song. Many critics have written about unnecessary noise through orchestra by our music directors in the hindi cinema, where lack of it would make it more lively. I think Salil Chowdhury should be exempted from that charge, for this movie. Not only because of this one song but also for the entire soundtrack of this film. Won't discuss other songs now. Will touch them as ATMJH #?? in the future. Note: I wish, I could have posted a song yesterday, 17th July. Anyway this is just an excuse to pay tribute to the singer who possessed the most sweet voice in the hindi cinema history, Kanan Bala (Kanan Devi) who now lives only in the memories of her fans for 4 years. The singer who sang 'Na Jaane Kya Hai Dil Raz' realised it in 1992 to stay in peace forever!
