Lemme wrap up this slight inundation of Talat on ATMJH with
this
jubilant track, available on yet another nice EMI compilation:
Rare
Duets of Talat Mahmood (CDF 132293).
Gemini's "Bahut Din Huwe" was the first instance when I heard this
MD-
lyricist pair, and was quite taken in by the lush melodies therein
(especially Lata's "kyoon chameli khilkhilaati hai bataa"). This
is
empirically melodious music; brisk, uplifting, intimate and
unassumingly ecstatic. Some of the murkis Lata takes in this song
(like
in the "raat", "baat", etc.) are absolutely delightful. It's rather
amusing how Talat's murkis in the same places kind of diffuse into
some
sort of a probability cloud of notes the tremor in his voice creates.
Lovely co-ordination of male and female voices.
The opening bars of this song, again, are strongly reminiscent of
some
very popular song, I forget which.
