Song: kaise keh
duun bajariya ke beech
yeh to kaanon mein kehnewaali baat hai re...
Film: Laadli (1949)
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

I got reminded of this song by the protracted Pakeezah translations
thread - the "deep" Urdu in 'jisne _bajariya_ mein chheena dupatta
mera', actually ; that bajariya reminded me of this one.
I guess the wistful, mellower "tumhaare bulaane ko ji chaahta hai"
would be the most popular cut from this lovely soundtrack from
Anilda,
but there is a host of charming, playful tunes like this one, in
a very
very young voice of Lata in it. And though it's from 1949, her
voice in
some songs, especially this one, seems even younger, like in her
1948
output ("bedard tere dard ko", "dil mera toda", etc.).
This song gets an adorable plus, in every sense of this newly-coined
obtuse phrase. An effervescent "suno suno suno suno re suno.."
(lost
count of the suno's) triggers the song off, accompanied by equally
vibrant orchestration. This, in a matter of two seconds, evaporates
into a softer, gentler gait to start the song off; a very demure
musical mapping of "Oops", as she realizes she's about to spill
the
beans in public. She then continues to inform (whoever it is) of
this "kaanon mein kehnewaali baat" - intimate secrets like :
mere seene mein aahon ka shor hai
mera nanha sa dil kamzor hai
mujhse ik din rahaa nahiin jaat hai
yeh to kaanon mein kehnewaali baat hai
interspersed with endearing exclamations like "haaye daiyya", "teri
qasam", etc.
There are a couple of similarly light-veined songs on this soundtrack
which I have grown rather fond of, both Lata solos: "aagre ko ghaagro
mangva de raaja devariya..." and "khula hua hai dil ka yeh darwaaza
re".
A highly collectible soundtrack... two thumbs up.
