In celebration of the Lady's seventy first birthday today...
This is a brisk, uplifting melody, etched in the same pattern of
positive
effervescence as "aansuon ki chhaaon men bhi hans le...", and delivers
a similar
message too. Beautiful vocal artistry in this song - the tune meanders
in some
delicate sinusoids with lovely murkis around the curves. Gorgeous
rendition from
Lata. There is a subtle, charming pause in the second line, between
the "piye
jaa"s, which infuses a sort of urging tone, like "c'mon, piye jaa..."
The song starts off in a slow prelude set against a strumming sitar
backdrop:
palkon hi had se baahar aansoo nikal na aaye
keh de musafiron se manzil pe thehar jaayen
I think SURANG is a V Shantaram film... don't recall who's in it
(Sandhya), but
it does have a lovely set of songs. Two other Lata solos worth
mentioning in
this movie are "gehri gehri nadiya men bahi chali jaaun re" and
"guzri thi raat
aadhi...". A couple of songs by Manna Dey and a delightful Asha
solo "mast
bahaar hai, pyaar hi pyaar hai" make up the soundtrack muster roll.
The overall
music is very similar to another soundtrack from the same year
- TEEN BATTI
CHAAR RAASTA, also a Shantaram film, and also composed by Shivram
Krishna.
