I had posted another duet with the same pair of singers from the
same
movie a while ago (http://atmjh.tripod.com/500.html, to refresh
your
memory), and I had mentioned this duet in passing there. The contrasting
timbres of the voices of these two singers makes them perfect
collaborative vocalists, as is evinced by these two gorgeous melodies.
While the earlier one is a slower, plaintive tune, this one breaks
off
into a more cheerful gait with some charming vocal calisthenics,
an
artful juxtaposition of the two voices and beneath it all, a warm
undercurrent of romantic intimacy. I'm posting clips of both these
songs
here.
With this last song in memory of Talat Mahmood, I'd like to segue
into a
series of songs I want to post composed by a very favorite music
director of mine - Hansraj Behl. HFM didn't see enough of this
remarkable composer, and except for a few sporadic hits ('haaye
jiya
roye', 'muhabbat zinda rahti hai', 'jahan daal daal par sone ki...',
etc.), he remained forever shadowed by other, more successful jubilee
composers. But the body of work he has created is surely enough
to merit
him a cherished seat in the pantheon of great musicians from the
golden
era.
