Song: Muze Nazar Se Utaar Kar Bhi, Na Chain Paya To Kya
Karoge
Jise Bhula Ke Chale Ho Woh Phir Yaad Aya To Kya
Karoge
Film: Lagan (1955)
Music: Hemant Kumar
Lyrics: Rajendra Krishna
Singer: Lata Mangeshkar
*ing: Nalini Jaywant, ?
After listening to several songs from Taj, Bahu, Hamara Watan,
Lagan etc. I feel Hemant Kumar gave some high class music during
'54-'56 time. Like Ramchandra Chitalkar, Hemant should also be
sung here. This song is one more proof. The only difference, in
my opinion, between the two greats, is Hemant Mukherjee didn't
allow instruments to prevail at any point of time over the
signing - not even for the interludes; where as C Ramchandra -
who incidentally worked with him during their association with
Filmistan, has used instruments and orchestra much more and with
profound effect. Particularly in his songs, interludes are little
'heavy'. For this reason Hemant Kumar's compositions sound, very
natural (to me). Otherwise both of them had similarities too. In
fact certain compositions of CR are supposed to be Hemant's in
reality!
Beyond the above mentioned Lata solo, there exist one popular
Hemant solo in the film:
'Bahaye Chaand Ne Ansoo, Zamanaa Chandani Samaza
Kisi Ke Dil Se Hook Uthi, To Koi Ragini Samaza'
Finally, there is one more Lata solo, worth noting here: 'Le Aaj
Teri Yaad Ki Nishani Bech Di'
