#94 Song: Upar Gagan Vishal (2), Niche Gehara Paatal Waah Re Malik Tune Kiya Kamaal, Aaha (2), Aa~~~~ .... Film: Mashal (1950) Music: Sachin Dev Barman Lyrics: Saraswati Kumar Deepak Singer: Manna De *ing: Ashok Kumar, ? This is how Manna-da recalls this song: 'I was assistant to Dada Burman. He was music director of Mashal. One day Burman-dada called me -- `Manna, tere liye ek gana banaaya hai, ye tu gaayega!` Main bola, Arre! Main! Main kahan achchha gaata hun ? He didn't listen to me. .....' And he sung, perhaps Manna didn't know what was he singing ? He sung this beautiful song, written by one of the few true Hindi poets in the industry -- Deepak, and made it immortal. Song, gave Manaa his first hit. He had sung for Ram Rajya (1943) [MD Shankarrao Vyas], Gaon (1948) [MD Hansraj Behal], Geet Govind (1947) [MD Pt. Govind Ram] Valmiki (1947) [MD ?] etc., but never made it big (with proper credit to "Zan(4) Payaliyaa Baaje' of Geet Govind - a good song). This first hit is a terrific song. It gives listener an immediate idea of singer's rich voice, his amazing control over it, flawless delivery of notes at all ranges etc. etc. Film also had one good solo by Arun Kumar: Jab Tum The Hamare Aur Ham The Tumhare And finally a song by queen of the female singers Geeta Roy: Kitni Such Hai Ye Baat Re, Koi Maane Na Maane
