% These are the words recorded in the aadi-granth, [the holy book of the
% Sikhs, considered the present Guru/teacher] page 1105, in the section
% of raag maaru. Bakt Kabir recited/penned these words about 500 years
% ago and a team of great scholars lead by Guru Arjan Dev made them
% immortal about 400 years ago by carefully and thoroughly validating
% them and then recording them in the aadi-granth. Originals of
% aadi-granth are preserved in museums. Copies of aadi-granth are
% read daily in millions of Sikh homes and Gurudwaras.
% Guri clarified:
% sooraa=soormaa, bahaadur purush, brave man
% sau=vo, that
% ju=jo, who
% larai=laD.e, fights
% deen=poor, one who is not provided for, unprotected
% hayt=liye, for
% purjaa-purjaa=the smallest pieces
% kaT marai=kaT martaa hai, gets cut-dead
% kabahoo=kabhee bhee
% chhaaDai=chhoRe, leaves
% khayt=raNn-bhoomi, battlefield

% (Kabir says, he bhaayee) soormaa us manushya ko samajhnaa chaahiye jo
% ghareeb-ghurbo.n kee khaatir laRtaa hai,
% TukRay-TukRay ho jaataa hai, (par apnee jaan bachaane ke liye) raNn-bhoomi
% (mei.n ghareeb-asahaay kee pakRee huyi baa.nh) nahi.n chhoRtaa.

% jau=agar, if
% tau=tumhe.n, you
% chaau=shauk, desire
% sir=sar, head
% dhar=rakh kar, after putting upon
% talee=haathelee, palm
% itu=is mei.n
% maarag=maarg, rastaa, direction
% payr=paa.nv, feet
% dhareejai=rakhiye, put
% kaaNn=jhijak, hesitation

% (Nanak says, he bhaayee) yadi tumhe.n (prabhu-)prem kee kreeRaa khelne kaa
% shauk hai,
% to apnaa sar hathelee par rakh kar (arthaat lok-laaj chhoR kar, ahembhaav
% door kar ke) meree galee mei.n aanaa.
% (prabhu-preet ke) is raaste mei.n (jab) paa.nv rakhiye,
% (to usi vaqt jab) sar ke bhe.nT karne mei.n (koyee) jhijak na ho.
